1970 Boss 429 Mustang

I became a big fan of Ford Mustangs when my Mom brought me home this kit when I was sick with strep throat.  This was the first model that I actually took time to research paint colors.  The internet wasn't around yet so even though I was sick I got dressed and opened the hood on the old Ford pickup to see what colors were used for different parts of the engine.  I even took the time to use silver paint for the chrome trim.

I loved this kit when I fist saw it and it presented a real challenge for me.  The kit came with the midnight blue stripes you see just before and after the doors but the rest of the blue had to be painted on.  Again, this was before the internet and I didn't have any way to research techniques and I had to come up with one on my own.  After lots of pondering I painted the kit white.  Then I added the stripe decals.  Once they set up,  I carefully masked off the stripes and white and applied the midnight blue.  Holding my breath, I pulled the masking off and it was perfect.  I would never try this now because I've learned just how lucky I was the decals didn't come off with the tape.  To do this now I'd paint a clear coat over the decals and then mask off for the blue.  Either way it was a huge success.  I plan of getting this car again and building it someday.

Having become a fan of Mustangs, I started building every Mustang kit I could find.  When I couldn't find any more factory versions I turned to the race cars.
