JPG Productions base
Bandai Star Destroyer
both 1:5000 scale
Completed October of 2019
The base is sold through JPG Productions. It's mastered by Vaughn MacPhail. It's a great and simple kit. Lots and lots of detail and very easy to assemble. If you've been following this build from the beginning you know that I added additional details to the buildings and streets to busy it up. That's just me being weird. It's very well done right out of the box and Jimi did an excellent job casting it.
The star destroyer is the Bandai kit of course. It's a great kit and very easy to assemble. If you've never lit up a kit before it's great for 1st timers but it fell short of my expectations. If I do this kit again I will take the time to run fiber optics rather than using the light box method. Also note that I rewired the engine lights to operate separately from the ships other lights.
This Bandai kit is not the SD that was seen in the movie so I made some modifications to get the look right. The antenna on top was installed upright and I used some evergreen channel and other odds and ends to build a support structure. The kit did not come with the engine vanes so I got in contact with TonyRR on Shapeways and he was able to resize his Zvezda vanes to fit my Bandai kit. They are available for sale on Shapeways.
With the simplicity of the base and the Bandai kit there was very little work to do in the way of building. Most of this was just painting and it was fun to do.
